You can expect an exciting route through the central part of the city, during which I will introduce you to the most interesting local legends, urban histories, and beautiful landmarks. Our path will take us through Pokrovka, the Kremlin, Christmas Street, and one of the largest and most scenic embankments in Nizhny Novgorod.

Secrets of the Locals

Our walk will begin on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, but instead of a standard tour of the street, I will take you through secret courtyards and alleys that even some locals don't know about. Along the way, I will reveal all the legends and superstitions of the Nizhny Novgorod region, as well as talk about religions, sects, and the peculiarities of Orthodox architecture in the region. You will learn why Nizhny Novgorod is called "The Largest Closed City in the World," why Sakharov was exiled here, and why Gorky's workers signed up for loans that their colleagues in Leningrad refused.

"Places of Power" in Nizhny Novgorod

We will see the main city monuments of the historic center, as well as visit the ancient Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. You will hear legends about Dytel and the sorceress godmother, learn about popular movements from Razin's rebellion to Minin's militia. I will show you the city's "places of power" related to moments of culture that most deeply reveal the secrets of the "cultural code." We will also discuss other features of Nizhny Novgorod, such as the atmosphere of "mailboxes," "the era of change," and the city's appearance in the eyes of Nizhny Novgorod residents during the time when their "country was rising from its knees."
