Day 1 — Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hipporome, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar

Explore the highlights of Istanbul on this private full-day walking tour that covers the major attractions, from the Hagia Sophia Museum, to the iconic Blue Mosque, to the bustling maze of the Grand Bazaar, to the obelisk of the Hippodrome of Constantinople.

The 8-hour excursion starts with a pick-up from your Istanbul hotel and a walk through the lively streets of Turkey’s largest city to visit the dramatic former basilica of the Hagia Sophia, a great architectural beauty and an important monument during the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires.

For many centuries, this was the largest church in the world, and it still boasts the 4th largest dome after St. Paul's in London, St. Peter's in Rome and the Duomo in Florence. Dedicated to the Hagia Sophia or 'divine wisdom', it is one of the greatest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture.

Move on to the Blue Mosque, more officially known as the Sultanahmet Mosque. The mosque’s striking blue tiles give it its more common name and make it one of Istanbul’s most iconic attractions. Located close to Topkapi Palace, Sultanahmet Mosque was considered the Supreme Imperial Mosque in Istanbul.

Continue to Topkapi Palace, a relic of the glory days of the great Ottoman Empire. The former palace boasted a population of about 4,000 people at its peak and was home to 25 sultans over a period of 400 years. Located on a promontory overlooking the Golden Horn, it sits in tranquil gardens that provide shade from the blazing heat of the summer. Pop in to the museum to see the gorgeous Iznik tiles and the ornate stateroom of the harem, among other attractions.

You will also visit the Hippodrome, the former circus built in 203 AD by the Roman Emperor Septimus Severus. Three monuments from the original building remain, including the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpentine Column, and the Constantine Column. You will also pause to look at the German Fountain of Wilhelm II, made from 8 marble columns.

Your day won’t be complete, however, without a visit to the Grand Bazaar, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. With hundreds of small handcraft shops selling everything from handmade carpets to Turkish coffee, the atmosphere is electric, and it's a great place to try out your bargaining skills.

Day 2 — Spice Bazaar, Bosphorus cruise, Dolmabahce Palace, Istiklal Street, Taksim

The spice bazaar is located in Fatih. It's known as the Egyptian Market because, during the Ottoman period, Egyptian exports were sold there. The Bosphorus is a narrow, navigable strait between Europe and Asia that connects the Black Sea to the Marmara Sea. Rumeli and Anadolu Fortresses are located at the narrowest point of Bosphorus. There are also magnificent Ottoman palaces and mosques along the Bosphorus. Keep an eye out for them!

Built in the 19th century, Dolmabahce Palace was the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire and housed some of the last Ottoman Sultans. The palace site was created by filling in the small bay on the Bosphorus. This gave rise to its name, in Turkish, Dolma means 'filled' or 'stuffed,' and bahce means 'garden'.

Istiklal Street is brimming with life. There, you'll find a plethora of shops, restaurants, and bars. From there, it is a 2-kilometer walk down to the Tunel Galata Tower area.

We really enjoyed our trip together with Ahmet, our tour guide. He is very knowledgeable of the sites and the history behind these sites. I personally became really interested about the Ottoman empire because of his stories. He also recommended a nice place to eat - the food is very delicious. This activity is highly recommended :).

Our guide was great. The first tour i have taken that is private. From the beginning, we immediately felt that we weren't taking a tour. We were spending time with a friend who is knowledgeable and passionate about the history of this beautiful place.

The guide Allil was not interesting, we didn't learn anything and spoke French quite poorly. We paid for a day and one afternoon he did nothing because he took us to visit a palace because we had much more interesting audio guides! In the morning Blue Mosque and Ste Sophie, he spent his time telling us that we couldn't see well because of the renovations and left us 30 minutes to visit alone !!! Paying 120 euros for a guide for that is almost theft!

Even though the filming locations went through the heavy London traffic, there wasn't a single minute that was boring. The incredibly spontaneous, lively and funny nature of our tour guide Lotti contributed to this, which could report from a rich treasure of anecdotes, curiosities and insider knowledge from the Harry Potter films. And as with many comparable tours, this was not profane and boring, but really interesting! For example, next to the Millenium Bridge (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) was the London School of Westminster, on which actor Daniel Radcliffe had gone to school. Lotti also knew a lot about the shooting and the casting (in which she had participated for the role of Luna Lovegood herself and had been in the last 10 competitions). Overall, a great trip despite the rainy weather!

VERY SURPRISED! My husband and I took this boat trip on the 8th of November. Lovely sunshine and warm. We were picked up at the hotel in the old town and got extremely surprised when we went onboard the boat - quite big, felt luxurious and very clean. We sat outside on large white faux leather sofas and they gave us welcome drinks and bits to snack on - all very good. We were lucky, only about 25 people on the whole big boat so we got first class service! On the way up to the Black Sea they served a fantastic lunch. The guide was very informativ and the boat stopped off at a small village on the way back, and more things to eat and drink! Lovely luxury cruising! Even though it said in the brochure that the return transfer to the hotel is not included - they actually brought us back - no charge!

Got to Oxford first. The time spent in Oxford felt short, but then again I guess there’s never enough time to see everything. Our tour guide was exceptional. He gave us about an hour of guided tour and then we were free to roam for about 2 or 3 hours. Since this is a Harry Potter tour, I recommend paying the ticket price for Christ Church, while a bit on the expensive side, you will see the stairs leading into Hogwarts and the great hall. I also recommend paying the £2 to see The Divinity School. And for a magnificent view of Oxford I would recommend paying to see the top view of Oxford at the university Church of St. Mary. The WB studio is of course the main attraction in this tour and definitely worth the cost. It is something you have to see in person.

This would be a great cruise if you are a smoker, which I am not.. There is no designated smoking area and lots of people were smoking all over the ship, upwind from other passengers. In fact, I felt like I had smoke in my face the whole time, no matter where I moved. Even the captain and crew smoked unabatedly upwind from guests. This pretty much ruined the beauty of the experience. Otherwise the information given, and music played was fine. The food seemed okay, but I lost my appetite from all the smoking. Seriously, if you are going to allow smoking, have a designated area at the back of the boat.

A tour around the corners of Harry Potter gave much to both book and movie connoisseurs and less knowledgeable. The route traveled to key locations in London, and the tour told stories and stories about London history. Along the route, there were places where you could hardly go on your own. It was nice that during the tour we actually took to the streets of Lonyoo. Very good and interesting experience. As a development idea, the guide could have some flag on the mast or something else that would guide the group to the places they visited.
