It’s a walking tour inside the Jewish district. You will know why street-art appeared here, in the Jewish district first and how it reflects the history Budapest and Hungary.

DESCRIPTION:
Modern street art has long ceased to be "just inscriptions on the fence". This is a separate genre of art that lives its own life and talks to its audience about important, acute and topical issues. About life and history.

The street-art objects are not only murals on the walls, but also posters (paste-ups), statues and other installations.

We will look for treasures hidden on the streets and talk about what topics they touch on, and what they are telling us (or maybe argue?) about.

We will walk through the Jewish quarter, which is now almost completely not Jewish, but a quarter of youth, bars and parties. We will walk through the whole district and talk about how it became a youth area. Why is there graffiti around? Why do the police and city authorities look away? And anyway, who pays for all this? 😉

On the route, we will find and unravel the messages of the main street-art works and maybe some new artists’ works. After all, street art is a living art, you never know where a new creation of young, talented and creative artists will appear.

We will find out what stories the murals, statues and other installations tell us. And how they reflect the events of the past and present days.

And we will finish our walk in the most famous ruin bar Szimpla Kert, where you will find out why ruin bars appeared in the Jewish quarter, and how they differ from other bars. And what crazy photos you can take inside 🤩
