Your Own Serbia. Novi Sad and Petrovaradin Fortress

Details

Novi Sad is the cobblestone streets of the old town with street performers, pastry shops, and cafes spilling over with the sounds of jazz, blues, rock and roll, and Balkan music. It's a labyrinth of hidden passages that wind through little courtyards covered in vines, and charming small lanes, where street exhibitions of artists from around the world adorn the walls. Novi Sad is the Danube's stunning bend and the four-hundred-year-old Petrovaradin Fortress — one of Europe's largest — with its vast network of underground passages. It's the artists' workshops, the old shops with Belle Epoque interiors, and the local markets overflowing with irresistible food, colorful tiled roofs, and even turtles in a shady city park.

Novi Sad is a crazy mix of cultures: in architecture, music, food, and even daily interactions. Dozens of different peoples have lived here — Germans, Roma, Serbs, Armenians, Hungarians, Rusyns — all of whom have contributed to making this city very special. And while steeped in history and tradition, Novi Sad is also a bustling hub of modern life with amazing murals and witty street art, alternative culture thriving in former factory clusters, social and urban projects, and an inclusive environment.

This city is incredibly cozy, beautiful, cheerful, and hospitable. And thankfully, our love for Novi Sad is mutual. We can't wait to share this love with you!

We'll explore all the city's main attractions: the Petrovaradin fortress, the Church of the Virgin Mary, the Greek Catholic Church of Peter and Paul, the synagogue, the Bishop's Palace, etc. We'll take a leisurely stroll through the charming old city center, cross over the bridge spanning the Danube, delve into the history of the Petrovaradin fortress, and uncover its many secrets. We'll also visit many unusual spots, such as secret courtyards and small lanes with street exhibitions, a Nazarene Christian community, an amazing workshop with comic book tapestries, and an old shop with luxurious interiors. We'll find the narrowest street, murals and art spaces, unusual shops, and bars. We might even catch a concert or have coffee on the tram. And of course, we can't forget to explore the local market!

Let's talk about the history and present-day culture of the city, and take a fresh look at the architecture of the 20th century and the urban environment. How a Hungarian locksmith managed to be a founder of a church? Why the city needs a drunken watch? What do diamonds and apples have in common? Let's find out!

We'll also learn some Serbian dances, take great photos, buy unusual souvenirs, try plenty of local food and drinks in unique places, and we make sure to recommend some great spots to visit after the tour. We can't wait to show you all the wonders of Novi Sad — join us on our tour and discover the charm of the most beautiful Serbian city!
