The most unusual temple in the world

The small Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in the mountains of Arcadia is one of the most, if not the most, inexplicable buildings in the world. The temple itself was built between 1050 and 1100, with some estimates placing it in the first half of the 12th century at the latest. Huge trees, some reaching 30 meters in height (and yes, they are enormous), have grown through the walls of this tiny 1,000-year-old church. These trees cannot support themselves solely through their roots, as the sail effect occurring where the roots penetrate the walls and especially the roof could break through concrete, not just the fragile 30-centimeter thick roof and walls of the medieval temple. This building, besides its religious significance, is under the purview of the Academy of Sciences of Greece, and research on the temple has been ongoing for the last 30 years using the most modern technologies. From the viewpoint of theism, a miracle is an interruption by the will of an omnipotent God in the natural course of events—by the same will that established the laws of nature. From a materialistic perspective, miracles do not happen, and a scientific explanation for the suspension of natural laws must simply be found. However, if scientific research acknowledges the fact of the suspension of natural laws, it is, in essence, a scientific recognition of a miracle.

X-ray examination of the walls and roof showed that they are permeated with roots, yet despite the multi-ton weight and the sail effect of the trees, the temple remains intact and undamaged. The massive trees, practically hanging in the air without damaging the temple's walls through their roots, defy the laws of nature. Moreover, something incredible happens with the roots: a biometric analysis of the walls and roof revealed that the roots unnaturally diminish in the walls as if disappearing into them. Therefore, when you enter the temple (which is accessible to visitors), you hardly see any roots, but from the outside, the huge trees with natural roots are clearly visible. Yet, no picture can truly capture this—you have to see it yourself.

The journey from Athens takes about 2.5 — 3 hours to reach the temple, located in the beautiful region of Peloponnese, Arcadia. Most of the route is on a comfortable highway, with about 30-40 minutes on a country road. Along the way, we will stop at the Corinth Canal, where you can see two seas at once, and pass through the mountainous Arcadia with its magnificent landscape.
